They’ve pulled down the old tenements
And changed the face of old Glasgow
To ‘improve’ things for the people
In the place I used to know.
Gone are the shipyards
Long gone the shipyard men
Gone are the shipyard cranes
Never to be seen again.
So many changes have been made
To that great city on the Clyde
But the memories I have of the place
Are safely locked inside.
Sadness as well as joy
Laughter as well as tears
Many deep emotions formed
In Glasgow through the years.
I remember on a Saturday
To play rugby we would go
And the people there would cheer us on
In the place I used to know.
Many years have now passed by
Since these days so long ago
When I grew up and found my way
In the place I used to know.
One day I will return
To where the Clyde waters flow
But it just won’t be the same
As the place I used to know.
